Mercedes -Benz is a German automobile manufacturer, a multinational division of the German manufacturer Daimler AG. Mercedes-Benz traces its origins to Karl Benz's creation of the first petrol-powered car, the Benz Patent Motorwagen, financed by Bertha Benz and patented in January 1886, and Gottlieb Daimler and engineer Wilhelm Maybach's conversion of a stagecoach by the addition of a petrol engine later that year. The Mercedes automobile was first marketed in 1901 by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. The first Mercedes-Benz brand name vehicles were produced in 1926, following the merger of Karl Benz's and Gottlieb Daimler's companies into the Daimler-Benz company. The name first appeared in 1926 under Daimler-Benz but traces its origins to Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft's 1901 Mercedes and to Karl Benz's 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen, which is widely regarded as the first gasoline powered automobile. Mercedes-Benz's slogan is "Das Beste oder nichts" (English: "The best or nothing"). Mercedes-Benz is part of the "German Big 3" luxury automakers, along with Audi and BMW, which are the best selling luxury automakers in the world.
The brand name Mercedes goes back to the year 1900. The union of the companies Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft and Benz & Cie. the Daimler Benz AG was made perfect in 1926. From this the brand name Mercedes Benz resulted. Passenger cars of the Daimler Benz AG were quite frequently at that time. When the failure of the light Einheits-Pkw became clear, the incurred gap was closed with the Mercedes Benz type 170 VK. As successor of the heavy Einheits-Pkw - which had likewise proven as a little useful - approximately 4,900 1.5t lorries of the type L 1500 A were built as personnel carriers. Lorries from 1.5 ton to 10 tons payload were produced besides the passenger car program. The Reichswehr procured some 3 tons lorries as personnel carriers. Of the all-terrain 1.5 ton type G 3 a three-axles lorry more than 2,700 units were manufactured from 1929 to 1935. Further 7,400 units of the type LG 3000 3 tons lorry were assembled from 1935 to 1938. Aproximately 33,000 units of the important L 3000 & L 3000 S/A 3 tons lorries were manufactured from 1938 to 1944. Of the likewise important 4.5 tons lorry approx. 9,500 exemplars were manufactured by the Daimler Benz AG. Towards the end of war the own 3 tons lorry had to be adjusted and the Opel Blitz 3 tons lorry had to be built instead. After only approx. 3,500 units a bomb attack terminated production. In addition, the Wehrmacht had thousands of drawn in formerly civilian lorries from Mercedes Benz. The Daimler Benz AG was one of the three larges omnibus manufacturers in the German Reich. So, many of them were later seen in use by the Wehrmacht.
