Tempo

The history of the above-mentioned type begins at the end of the year 1920, when in a tiny berlin tovarnicce Rinne Motorgesellschaft began the production of motor tricycles, with the body at the front behind the front axle and with the motorcycle the driver's seat and the engine before the rear wheel. Production of this type, known as Pace, was only one machine per week. Yet it is very important that its users were Max Vidal and his son Oskar, traders of coal from the town of Vandsbek near Hamburg. Those are about the production of vehicles of this type began to be interested, to become a regional brand vendors Pace and in 1928 they stopped selling coal and take the technology as well as machinery equipment. Trikole vehicle and its configuration was modified by the former air chief designer and already in 1930, has begun production of the modernised type T6. For vehicles T6 in 1933 joined T6 Front (the engine and the driven wheel in the front), it was a real, albeit small, of a freight car with a sleek two-seat cabin and the option of fitting one or two of the engine. !!! Production of this type continued after the war until 1961, when it was manufacturing plant moved to India. !!!
Otto Daus in the years of the economic rise of Germany suggested also 4 refrigerator and dishwasher adaptation under the name E600, with an engine of 600 cc and with independent suspension front wheels. From the E600 has already been such a long way to the first truly off-road car of the company Vidal and son.
In such a really an off-road car of the company Vidal and son became the G1200 (Gelandewagen, 1200 ccm), made in 1933. Although, for example, drive wheel G1200 was from a mechanical point of view absolutely identical with the E600, the G1200 was interesting just a duplication of the power units for propulsion of the rear axle. In order to achieve the best possible contact with the ground was the front of the drive unit with the raceways of the wheels stored kyvne on the axis of the pipe frame, the rear engine was stored hardcoded. Between the two axles was in the middle of the stored third axis with the reserves, which helped to overcome the terrain irregularities (embankments and ditches).
Though at first glance the fragile structure of the vehicle could seem for the harsh military service as inappropriate, the opposite proved true. Driving with vehicle in the hands of an experienced driver has been excellent both on the roads and in the field.
The date of manufacture of the first piece, a Tempo G 1200 is almost coincided with the date of death of the elder owner of the company, mr Max Vidal. His son Oscar enlisted as a shareholder in the firm of his brother Herbert and jointly launched the production of a new type with an exemplary effort and entusiasmem. After all, the world yet again zbrojil! Type Tempo G1200 was patented in 1938 under the number 480 585 and the numbers of sold cars (not only G1200) were staggering: in the year 1935 sold to 10 000. ks, in 1937, then 25 000. ks (these numbers were achieved through large investments in advertising and promotional tours practically all over the world). The Wehrmacht played the role of a dead beetle and favored private development of off-road vehicles. In the course of the war, however, has occurred even to the requisitions of vehicles from civilian users and for example in the Italian Gedi were Allies found 3 pieces of the Tempo G1200, most of the vehicles have been used, paradoxically, not Wehrmachtem, but the SS, Luftwaffe and even the Kriegsmarine. Let us return, however, back before the war. The French government bought in 1937 12 pcs G1200 for troop tests, and according to contemporary sources, it was ordered 300 pieces for the needs of the French ground troops (perhaps should be introduced also license production), to the implementation of the contract has occurred.
"In no less than 39 countries around the world, we can find an interesting car, whose astonishing useful properties and capabilities have led to consternation and surprise of all who had the opportunity to meet with him. It is all-terrain car of the Pace, developed by the German engineer Otto Dausem. The fact that the manufacturer sells the car in 19 european countries (including Germany), 8 countries of America and in 7 asian states, in Australia and 4 countries of the african continent, indicates that this car must be something extremely special. Variants, in which the Pace is delivered can be difficult to calculate. The vehicle, which calmly can carry the designation of all-terrain acrobat, it is appropriate for farmers, geologists, forest guardian, a rural doctor, the police - in short, for all those who have to ride in the field, on unpaved roads, and everywhere there, where other vehicles neprojedou. The pace may, however, honosit sporting achievements, for example, in this year's Three-day mountain driving mountains of the Harz were among the 350 participating cars divided only 73 prices, among the winners were also two of Pace, which arrived safely without losing a single point.“
Quite interesting is also the result of the tests, that the Tempo G1200 were in the hands of Joachim Fischer, editor of the German motorsports magazine Motor-Kritiek. In September 1938, with the car drove through the roads or in the field, more than 17 000 km and in the magazine then published his observations and opinions:
"The maximum speed of the Tempo G1200 reaches (without undue rewind motor) 68km/h (on 1 engine 65 km/h), surpassing the 290 climb (bedrock hard lawn) and 380 descent (subsoil gravel). Acceleration quite readily from 20 to 60 km/h 15 s (for 1 engine 51s), the braking distance during deceleration from 30 km/h to 0 km/h 4 m. From the point of view of the general characteristics of it comes to a lightweight multipurpose vehicle, easy to operate while driving down the road or in the field, with very good driving characteristics. Undemanding in care, with low financial demands, the cost is relatively low thanks to the use of time in the operation of certified components. Both propulsion units are fully equipped, while driving can be used by either of them or both at the same time, the propulsion units are virtually identical, for the drive are as well as the gear quite noisy. The smooth bottom of the vehicle with the central tubular frame. The controls in the usual configuration with the controls on the center tunnel, the driver's seat can not be moved to the right. Both reserves are to be assembled, in overcoming terrain obstacles can act as a wheel support/auxiliary. The vehicle is appropriate for the armed forces, driving in the terrain, use in forestry, construction and everywhere, where are required good driving properties and high clearness. The vehicle has a good hold on the hard and rozmeklem terrain has somewhat reduced the maximum speed and acceleration capability, high clearness is given to the relatively large rejdem (especially at the front axle) and the high lift suspension. The coupling of the two propulsion units and the control rod accel in constant shot. Suspension is (surprisingly) soft, the vehicle moves in a balanced manner even in the worst of off road conditions when driving on the roads has a somewhat hard. Brakes simple, mechanical, efficient even when driving in the field. Both transmissions have a control lever for shifting on the center of the tunnel in close proximity, 4 gears of both gearboxes can be ordered separately or at the same time (after connection of the levers with a simple lock), the shifting is light, whether is ranked the speed of one or both transmissions. The vehicle is driven by slight turning of the front wheels, after the elimination of the closing date of the differential of the rear axle can be rotated and the rear wheels in the opposite direction. Management of the rear axle is not possible to separately, can be used only at low speed, usually in difficult terrain. Armament of the vehicle is somewhat spartanska, fully sufficient. The seats are simple, solid, without adjustable seat backs.
